So in the month that I’ve been here in Shanghai, I’ve realized that
1. I have never seen a “naked” dog here. They are always wearing little sweaters or some sort of costume. I once saw a dog in a mini suit. It was adorable.
2. The cats run rampant around the Donghua campus. We named this…
I know I’m terrible about posting here but I only have internet maybe once a week out here in the field. But have no fear I am still alive and living the beach life. Everyone’s trips look AWESOME so far. Keep it up cool chicas.
These are some of the fisherman I work with!
Still having an amazing time down here in Santiago. Today was my host mom’s birthday! We had a BBQ with her extended family. Everyone was wonderful. When they were all together it kind of reminded me of my own family- loud and full of energy! I was able to bring one of my friends that lives a…
Bienvenindos a Carnaval! Andrea and I were aliens. Our bus from Granada left at noon and we arrived at 5 pm. The bus returning to Granada left at 6 am…
This was Juan our bus escort, he was a condom fairy.

Finally Settled In P.S They love Vampire Diaries here…
Orientation finally ended and we started classes today. I wanted to do a language intensive program and that is exactly what I got. Going from little written Chinese experience, this entire semester seems daunting. I knew how to write, at max, 20 Chinese words before this, and now we have to learn up to 30 Chinese PHRASES each day. But i’m loving it here! During my orientation, I hung out with my roommate, Sun Ming Yang. She is absolutely great. She’s taken me out to eat, sing karaoke, and basically taught me how to survive in Shanghai. Without her I would be lost in the middle of Shanghai. It’s funny how adding a language barrier makes every day things just that much more difficult. Especially since I am Chinese, people are extremely confused when I can’t speak perfect Chinese. Even more awkward. Also, everyone in my program is great. Their Chinese is amazing. I’m jealous. Lastly, I start my internship at Habitat for Humanity tomorrow. I’m nervous but so extremely excited. I miss and love you all!!
Here are some interesting things about Chinese dorm rooms:
1. Normally students do not have air conditioning or heating in their rooms, so they spoil us here.
2. You have to pay to use the hot water AND they time you.
3. Normal students here also have an energy stipend and they don’t have dryers.
Here are some pictures:
Where I have my classes:

AT KFC THEY SELL MILK BUBBLE TEA!! WHY CANT WE DO THAT??

OBAMA CLUB!!! LOLLLLLZZZ

I’ve decided to dedicate my blog to my one true love: FOOD
Today for lunch we went to a Taiwanese restaurant and it was delicious! PLUS, Jackie Chan’s face was literally everywhere. EVERYWHERE.
SWEET AND SOUR SOUP. IT EXISTS IN CHINA. SO DELICIOUS.
Xiao Long Bao. They are steamed buns and they are so cute.
Dinner was at a place dedicated to Sichuan style food, which means it is EXTRA spicy. Notice all the hot peppers. and the fish heads. lolz.
and to top it all off, Mochi for desert :)
Tumblr confuses me.. I meant to just post my things on this blog but then created my own blog… I guess… oops. Look there? http://apremer.tumblr.com/ I just posted about my weekend trip!
Here!

Hey you all! After months of waiting, I am finally here. Here are some highlights so far.
1. The airline lost my luggage, so that was my first test of my Chinese skills. I had to describe to the baggage attendant what my luggage looked like and she literally laughed at my attempt. I’m going to have to get used to that.
2. I am going to get a haircut today..and Alison..i haven’t ruled out the Asian mullet yet ;) I mean i just hope I look as good as this guy:

I’m moving into my dorm room on Wednesday so i’ll update you all then! Hope everyone else is having a great time!
LOVE AND MISS YOU ALL

Mariposa! There is so much wildness going on behind my house, it is too beautiful. I have the mountains all around, but just beyond you can see the el mar, the ocean. I am two or three hours away from both the Caribbean and the Pacific! I have been wondering around like a lost idiot for a few days now and have tasted all kinda of delicious treats (slushy with condensed milk = heaven). This upcoming weekend vamos a la playa! wahoooo.
mas para venir,
besos
la vida granadeño
Granada is gorgeous, it reminds me a bit of Colorado because there’s mountains in the background and the weather is crisp but not cold (though everyone else here treats it like they’re in the Arctic circle). Beyond that, Granada is different from anywhere else I’ve lived. The buildings and streets in my neighborhood are all heavily influenced by Islamic and Roman architecture. The cobblestone streams are a little hard to walk on, but I’m really excited to be in a walking city.
I wish I had pictures not from the internet for you, but silly me, I forgot my camera battery charger. I’m trying to find a replacement, but worst comes to worst I’ll steal other people on my trips photos. There are about 80 of us, and apparently that’s pretty small. We’ve already run into another study abroad group in Granada, solely from a school in New York.
AH! So the daily schedule here is grueling. I go to class from 9-2 with a break around 12 for tostada, the spanish version of toast and coffee. Lunch is at 3 then I take a nap from 4 until 6. Tapas, drinks with free appetizers, happens around 9 or later. Granada is special because it’s the only place left in Spain where all bars have free tapas with your drink. They’ve pretty varied, but all delicious so far. Tapas can go at the very least until midnight, and last night we stayed out until 3:30. After that sometimes you go to a discoteca, dance club, starting around midnight earliest, and not finishing until 4-6 am. oyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy This life is crazy.
lots of love y besos (dos, left cheek first), A
